Which extension suits your home?
Start with the use: more living space, a bedroom, a workspace or additional accommodation. A garden-facing extension, an extra floor and a separate outbuilding involve different interfaces and planning considerations. We explore which form may suit your house, site and everyday life.
Timber components and an existing structure
The Eco Kit uses prepared timber building elements assembled on site by the contractor. For an extension, load-bearing capacity, foundations, connections, moisture and air sealing and services need coordinated design. Existing drawings and a structural review are needed before fixing the kit specification.
Tervuren and Waterloo: two real extension projects
Tervuren combines an extension with an additional floor; the photographs show a polycarbonate façade and exposed timber structure. In Waterloo, an existing villa is extended with the KiteHouse Eco Kit. These projects provide a basis for discussing different buildings and living needs.
Compare the extension budget on the same basis
Identify connections to the house, necessary alterations, the kit, assembly and finishes separately. Discuss site access, temporary protection and arrangements if you remain in the home. You can then compare offers for an equivalent scope of work.
Explore permissions and timing early
A modular extension needs a review of the location and the actual proposed works. The municipality and project team establish the procedure and studies required. A useful programme includes design, permissions, preparation, work to the existing home, assembly and finishing.
Send the existing situation
Photos, available drawings, the location and a description of the extra space are a useful start. Add your indicative budget, preferred programme and any discussions with the planning service. We can then discuss the next steps for investigating your extension.
Answers to practical questions.
Can I remain in my home during the works?
That depends on the intervention, access and temporary protection. Agree which rooms remain available, how services will operate and which stages affect residents.
What information is needed to discuss an extension?
Send the location, existing drawings and photos, the extra spaces needed, your indicative budget and preferred programme. Include any discussions with the municipality.
Can an additional floor always be added?
No. Load-bearing capacity, foundations, planning requirements and connections to the house need investigating first.
